Genesis Chapter 5

Chapter 5

There isn't much to say about Chapter 5. It whizzes through 1500 years, naming Adam's descendants. The line goes: Adam --> Seth --> Enos --> Cainan --> Mahalaleel --> Jared --> Enoch --> Methuselah --> Lamech --> Noah --> Shem, Ham and Japeth.

You may notice that's only 11 generations over 1500 years. Biblical patriarchs had kids late, between 65 and 500 years. They also lived between 365 and 962 years. I hope the retirement age was older then! This is also the first chapter in which girls are born, though none of them get names.

Oh yes. I almost forgot. All of the patriarchs died, except Enoch, who walked with God: and he was not; for God took him. (v. 24) According to Jerry, this means that Enoch reconciled with god, and the reward was victory over death. Ironically, Jerry died 2 years ago.
